Rock N Water Rafting Trip Idea

July 23, 2015
One of my favorite family memories is our adventures at Rock N Water. Be prepared to get dirty, make friends, eat good food, be challenged, sleep like a rock and grow deeper in your relationship with the Lord. In my opinion, Rock N Water is the #1 adventure you and your family or youth group can go on this summer!

Rock N Water is located in Northern California between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe and the base camp is in a pristine location on the South Fork of the American River. Rock N Water hosts families, youth groups and school groups all year long.

They take groups on water adventures, hiking, canyoneering, backpacking, white water rafting (class III & class IV), inflatable kayaking, snowshoeing, educational field trips, and so much more. You can choose from their pre-formed trip packages or create your own to meet the needs of your group.

One of my favorites is the "The Triple Play", which includes one day of Rock Climbing, 1 day of White Water Rafting and 1 day of Canyoneering. This package includes 3 nights of camping and 8 meals. I like the variety that the Triple Play brings to the trip and it includes my two all time favorite outdoor activities; rock climbing and white water rafting.

Here is a little bit of how a "Triple Play", might look for your family. We arrived at camp and set up our sleeping area (we chose to set up our tent), we had time to explore camp, go for a swim in the river and joined in on a game of sand volleyball. Each night that we stayed, included a campfire hosted by our RNW leader (can also be led by your own leader). The first morning when we woke up, we ate a hot breakfast made in their full functioning outdoor kitchen, then we headed out to explore the river canyon. We experienced top rope climbing, rappelling, bouldering, hiking, swimming and ate a catered lunch on the rocks. After returning to camp, they provided a nutritious dinner and we had the opportunity to participate in various camp activities before campfire, including their giant rope swing hung from a tree.  The next day our group was on the river! Since we were scheduled for the Lower South Fork, that left the morning for team building fun. Our guide had the morning planned with countless exercises, water safety training, and time to enjoy the great outdoors. We ate lunch at camp and headed onto the river right after. The next four hours were intense white water rapid fun, swimming, water fights, and games. This is not your typical sit in a boat and enjoy the river ride. Each person is working as a team, you need to be aware and water conscious. At the end there was time to relax in the boat, laugh about our adventures and even swim alongside the boat. I love the bonding and new relationships we formed on the river. The day ends with dinner back at camp. Our last day in camp was spent canyoneering. Canyoneering has various levels and types and each trip is different, but will each involve swimming, hiking, team building, exploring and lunch on the rocks. We were exhausted at the end and headed back to base camp to clean up camp and get on the road. You can always add additional meals or nights at camp should your family or group need it.

While staying at Rock N Water you'll get a rural camping experience with a few luxuries added. They have hot showers, running toilets, all your meals are made and cleaned up for you, and you can camp in your own tent or in a sleeping bag under the stars. The staff at Rock N Water all work together to prepare the meals and the food is incredibly good. They do accommodate for most food allergies and suggest you talk to the cook upon arrival to explain any accommodations you will need. For more information, check out their Food Allergies & Dietary Restrictions.

Rock N Water is family owned and the staff are highly committed Christians who have been trained to lead these various adventures. Their goal is to see that you and your family are safe, having fun, growing spiritually, and being adventurous.
